Quick Commentary
While the labor market looks to have been in an upturn in recent weeks, the renewed pullback in job openings and the ongoing slide in sentiment around job availability both suggest that the improvement to this point has been relatively modest. Consumers are still spending, however, as this morning’s consumption data is likely to show that the summer ended on a solid note. It is also a good bet to show another low personal saving rate, setting up a significant slowdown once the jobless rate moves more sustainably to the upside.
