Quick Commentary
Economic growth is imbalanced to the point that there are stark differences even within a niche such as the Texas manufacturing industry. While some respondents to this month’s Dallas Fed survey reported solid growth (“We are experiencing strong customer demand...”, “Sudden unexpected surge in new orders...”, etc.), others indicated a slump (“Incoming orders have really slowed down...”, “...very little to no manufacturing growth exists...”, etc.). This is, of course, a microcosm of the crosscurrents in the economy at large, highlighting the challenge the Fed faces in pulling off another soft landing should it continue to tighten policy.
